The Promise of Exosomes

written in neogen, moisturizer, centella, peptides, exosomes

As someone who has watched thousands of skincare videos, tried MANY different products and spent hours trying to find what works for me, I’ve grown tired of masked ads and endless promises. It’s hard to trust reviewers when you don’t know their skin type or what issues they’re actually dealing with. Neogen Dermalogy High R Exosome Cream was one of those products that promised me the Sun but threw me back down to Earth. After reading AMAZING reviews, I was genuinely excited to try this cream. Unfortunately, my normal, sensitive and more mature-than-I-would-like skin said “Meh.”

Now that I’m in my forties, my skin no longer looks as radiant and plump as it once did. Because of that, I tend to enjoy hydrating and moisturizing creams that leave my skin supple and lock in moisture for the day. Neogen emphasizes its multi-weight hyaluronic acid complex and other hydrators in this cream, so I expected it to be deeply hydrating. And while it does feel quite hydrating at first, that feeling disappears just a couple of hours after application. On the plus side, the texture is very light and would likely suit oily skin, even in the heat of a summer day. If you're a younger person, you might enjoy the consistency and lightweight feel.

Now, exosomes – a fancy and mysterious word that’s trending in skincare right now. So, what are they? Exosomes are not an ingredient itself. They are tiny delivery vesicles that transport proteins, lipids and other signals between cells. In skincare, they’re used to enhance communication between skin cells and support regeneration. There are plant-derived exosomes, which provide antioxidants and hydration, and human-derived exosomes, often used in professional treatments.

Neogen’s High R Exosome Cream features plant-derived exosomes, primarily from Centella asiatica, a popular ingredient known for its soothing and healing properties. And while I love centella in skincare, I’ve found other products more effective. One of them is Skin1004 Centella Ampoule, which leaves my skin looking red carpet ready. If you have truly sensitive skin, this Neogen cream probably won’t fix it.

Another ingredient that made me want to try this cream was resveratrol. Have you heard about “red wine molecule”? It’s been studied for its potential to extend lifespan, protect DNA and reduce inflammation. I definitely didn’t expect it to fix all my aging concerns, but I was hoping for at least some protection from free radicals. Unfortunately, the lack of lasting hydration in this cream was so disappointing that I just can’t justify buying another tube in hope for anti-aging benefits.

That said, I don’t want to sound like a total critic – while this cream didn’t live up to its promises for my skin, I can see it being a gentle option for someone younger than me.
